The elusive clover

Shamrock (or Clover) is the Capture Your 365 prompt for today, but we were also given a little wiggle room with a second choice of Green. I almost had to take it because finding a clover, any clover, was not easy. This one was sticking its little head out of the water at the edge of the pond. We had a lot of rain overnight and the pond level is above where it should be, the water spreading out on the lawn. Not that it matters. It’s all one big puddle out there today.

When I went looking for clover and green today, I wasn’t sure I would find the greens I was looking for, the greens of spring. I knew I’d find some green even at this time of year, because it’s so wet out there. The mosses and fungus are having a field day.

There are the other usual suspects for green, too: the evergreens.

It is so cold outside today that I thought I might have to resort to the evergreens, fungi, and mosses for my photo essay in green. I wanted to hurry up so I could go back inside where it’s warm. But then I started to look in the nooks and crannies, and discovered that there is some spring green to be found if you look carefully. After finding those first hints of spring green, I stopped feeling the cold and the wind, and forgot all about hurrying.

Green is the color of the Heart Chakra. The Sanskrit word for the heart chakra is Anahata. An open heart chakra is said to allow a person to feel more, love more, express more compassion, and empathize more. Because Love is my word for the year, green seems to be a good color to work with and get to know. I’m glad the prompt led me to look into it.

The color green is said to soothe, relax, and offer a sense of renewal and harmony. There might be some truth to that. Although we are having a cold, gray wintry day, I feel quite happy (bubbly almost) and refreshed after looking at all this green.

Rising from the dead

In and around the woods, you will find lots of green if you peer in through the undergrowth. There are hundreds of daffodils popping up all over the place. I often wonder how they got there. Who planted them? How many did they start with?

I’ve never counted but I’m pretty sure there are more and more daffodils coming up in the woods every year.

The tips of a lot of the greening plants are yellow from the cold and frost we’ve had recently.

The water irises coming up around the pond are showing the most yellowing due to cold. It was because of the yellowing that I almost missed that they’re coming up, thinking the leaves I saw were from last year.
